Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â The Fresno Falcons completed a trade today, receiving from the Wheeling Nailers rookie defenseman Dan Ennis and the rights to defenseman Derek Ernest in exchange for second-leading scorer Brad Mehalko and cash.
Ennis, who stands 6'3" and weighs 225 lbs., is a rookie out of Quinnipiac College and hails from Kitimat, BC, the same hometown as Falcons General Manager Blaine Moore. He recorded 11 points (3g-8a) and 33 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Nailers, who currently sit atop the Northern Division with a league-high 66 points. Ennis will not arrive in Fresno until early next week.
Ernest, a sixth-year pro, played for Wheeling the past two seasons. Although he played for the Columbus Stars of the United Hockey League this year, first the Nailers and now the Falcons hold his ECHL rights through the end of the current 2003-04 campaign.
Mehalko departs Fresno tied for the team lead with 11 goals and second in total points to Kris Porter with 29 (11g-18a).
Fresno battles the Trenton Titans tonight at 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center before hosting the Bakersfield Condors tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The Raiderette cheerleaders will entertain fans throughout tomorrow's contest, for which $10 balcony seats are available in addition to the team's regular seat selection.
Tickets for both games can be purchased at Save Mart Center's box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Tower Records, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
