Nashville's Vokoun Named DIRECTV/NHL® CENTER ICE® ECHL Alumnus of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former Wheeling and current Nashville goaltender Tomas Vokoun is the DIRECTV/NHL® CENTER ICE® ECHL Alumnus of the Month for January.

The DIRECTV/NHL® CENTER ICE® ECHL Alumnus of the Month is awarded to a former ECHL player currently playing in the National Hockey League. There have been 237 former ECHL players that have gone on to play in the NHL.

Selected to the 2004 NHL All-Star Game, Vokoun was 8-3-1 with a shutout, a 2.63 goals against average and a .906 save percentage in 12 games in January. In 48 games in 2003-04, Vokoun is 24-19-5 with two shutouts and a 2.53 goals against average and .909 save percentage.

He is 20-12-4 in his last 36 starts and ranks among the NHL leaders in wins (24), minutes (2,725) and shots faced (1,267). He is one win shy of tying his career high of 25 wins set in 2002-03 and he has appeared in 48 of the team's last 54 games. Since Nashville traded Mike Dunham in December of 2002, Vokoun has played in 101 of the Predators' 108 games compiling a record of 45-41-14, including 21 consecutive games from November 24-January 6 (10-8-3).

Vokoun was named NHL Defensive Player of the Week for November 24-30 after going 4-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .950 save percentage, and set a franchise record and personal career-high with seven consecutive wins from November 21-December 4. He recorded the first shutout in Nashville history on January 15, 1999 and has 11 career shutouts.

Selected by Nashville from Montreal in the 1998 NHL Expansion Draft, Vokoun was 20-10-2 and ranked 18th in the ECHL with a 3.67 goals against average in 35 regular season games for Wheeling in 1995-96. He ranked third in the ECHL with a 2.61 goals against average while going 4-2-1 with a .903 save percentage in seven postseason games for Wheeling.
