TONIGHT'S GAME:

The Hillcats continue an eight-game road trip with the first of four games against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at Coastal Federal Field...Last night, the Cats clawed their way to a series split with a 7-4 victory over Winston-Salem...With the win, the Cats moved into sole possession of first place in the Northern Division...Interestingly, all four Northern Division squads are seperated by a total of 3.0-games in the standings ... Currently, every team in the division posts a losing record...The only time a team advanced to the CL post-season without an above .500 record was in 1985...The Winston-Salem Spirits captured the Southern Division first-half crown with a record of 35-35...Lynchburg plays 15 of their last 19 games in the first half on the road...They are 2-2 to begin that stretch...In addition, all 19 games are against Southern Division squads...The Cats are 8-16 against the Southern Division this season...The Cats are just 3-10 against the Southern Division on the road this season...

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT

- Atilano, 20, is a 6-3, 215-pound right-hander selected by Atlanta in the 1st round of the 2003 draft. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native went 8-9 with a 4.17 ERA (136.0 ip, 138 h, 77 r, 63 er, 32 bb, 66 k) with Rome (A, SAL) last season. In addition, he was the starter for the South Atlantic League All-Star team, retiring 6 of the 7 batters he faced. In 2004 with Danville (R, Appalachian) he compiled a 5-1 record with a 4.20 ERA. In his last 5 starts Atilano has surrendered 10 hits or more on four occassions. He is 0-4 with a 9.12 ERA over that stretch. His only win of the season came on 4/19 vs. Winston-Salem (7.0 ip, 4 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 3 k).

The Hillcats overcame a deficit when trailing after five innings for only the second time this season yesterday (2-25)....1B Steve Pearce hit his 15th homerun of the season Wednesday...That total is the third highest in all of minor league baseball ...In addition, the slugger picked up his 50th RBI of the year last night, tied for the third highest total in minor league baseball....Nyjer Morgan had his 21-game hit streak come to an end in Lynchburg's 13-4 loss on Tuesday...He batted 30-80, .375-0-8 during the streak that began in late April and was interrupted for nearly two weeks due to a leg injury sustained on May 8th...INF Brian Bixler has reached base safely in 42 of his last 43 games, going 52-152, .342-2-23 over that stretch...The Hillcats are in sole possession of first place for just the third day this season...The Kinston Indians have a magic number of 7 to clinch the Southern Division first half crown....Any combination of Kinston victories and/or Winston-Salem losses that equals 7 by the end of the first half guarantees the K-Tribe a playoff berth...
