Potomac Nationals News Release
Woodbridge, Va. - Losing can be frustrating but when you drop a 3-2 decision like Potomac did to Winston-Salem tonight, it can get to you a little more but the Nationals have some good things to look at.
Ian Desmond has now recorded a hit in eight of the ten games since he's come back to Potomac while Jason Norderum became the third pitcher this season to work seven complete innings. Desmond as he delivered his second consecutive three-hit game and Norderum allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out seven and only walking one. His record falls to 3-5 on the season.
Luke Montz had a pair of hits in the contest and scored a run while Marcos Yepez delivered off the bench with a ninth-inning, lead-off single to center.
The Nationals are playing well, just not getting the breaks they deserve such as the second inning in which Chris Amador led off with a base-hit to right and was followed by a bunt single by Garrett Guest. Both would eventually score.
Frustration could've set in on the Nationals in the fourth however, as Donny Lucy and Rod Allen, Jr., each singled to begin the inning. Then Norderum attempted to pick Lucy off of second when the ball glanced off Trey Webb's glove and bounded into centerfield. Ender Chavez came up throwing and wound up firing the ball into the Winston-Salem dugout to score what would be the eventual game-winning run.
Instead of falling apart, Norderum struck back with two straight strikeouts and the Nationals scored a pair in the bottom of the inning to let the Warthogs know they weren't going to roll over and play dead.
Jack Egbert (5-3) settled after his rough inning and held the Nationals off the board throwing well over 100 pitches. He struck out seven while Francisco Hernandez earned his fifth save of the season.
These two teams now play on Salute to 6's Night at Pfitzner Stadium on Tuesday night (6/6/06) and the Nationals attempt to break their season-high six-game losing streak at 6:06 p.m. All fans will receive a copy of the Sixth Amendment of the United States Constitution with all fans with a 6 in their age being able to purchase a Grandstand ticket and hot dog for only $6 (proof of age needed) as will fans named John, Quincy or Adams (6th president of the United States). All fans under 6 will receive a free Grandstand ticket with a 6th inning stretch during both games.
