TONIGHT'S GAME:

The Hillcats continue an eight-game road trip with the third of four games against the Winston-Salem Warthogs ...Last night, Lynchburg salvaged a doubleheader split by taking the nightcap 6-4 amidst heavy rain...The Hogs blanked the Cats in the opener 6-0 behind Wes Whisler's complete game shutout...It marked the fourth time this season the Hillcats have been shutout...By winning the nightcap, the Cats remain only 0.5-games behind the Wilmington Blue Rocks for first place in the Northern Division ...However, all four Northern Division squads are seperated by a total of 2.0-games in the standings ... Currently, every team in the division posts a losing record...The only time a team advanced to the CL post-season without an above .500 record was in 1985...The Winston-Salem Spirits captured the Southern Division first-half crown with a record of 35-35...Lynchburg will play 15 of their last 19 games in the first half on the road...They are 1-1 to begin that stretch...In addition, all 19 games are against Southern Division squads...

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT

- Russell, 23, is a 6-8, 250-pound right-hander drafted by Chicago (AL) in the 6th round of the 2004 draft out of Ohio University. The Ohio native went 9-7 with a 3.78 ERA (24 gs, 126.1 ip, 116 h, 61 r, 53 er, 55 bb, 82 k) in Kannapolis (A, SAL) in his first full season of professional baseball. He finished the campaign by compiling a 4-1 record with a 2.96 ERA in five August starts. Russell ranked seventh in the MAC with a 2.92 ERA in conference play as a junior. Russell was originally drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 20th round of the 2000 draft but elected to attend Ohio University.

The Hillcats went 15-14 in May, the fourth highest winning total for the team in the month in franchise history...Their 2002 counterparts set the franchise record for wins in May, going 25-6...The Hillcats were held to just 6 hits in last night's doubleheader...The team had homered in a season-high five consecutive games prior to getting shutout in the opener last night...1B Steve Pearce hit his 15th homerun of the season Wednesday...That total is the third highest in all of minor league baseball (see graphic below)...RHP Steve Duguay has his 11.1 scoreless innings streak snapped in the nightcap last night during a heavy rain storm...It is the first runs he has allowed in 9 appearances....Nyjer Morgan had his 21-game hit streak come to an end in Lynchburg's 13-4 loss on Tuesday... He went 0-for-4 in the setback...Morgan went 30-80, .375- 0-8 during the streak that began in late April and was interrupted for nearly two weeks due to a leg injury sustained on May 8th...
