Lupul Returns to Mudbugs
February 12, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Mudbugs' depleted defensive corps got a shot in the arm today with the return of defenseman Dale Lupul from the Quad City Flames of the American Hockey League.
Lupul was called-up to the Flames last Wednesday but did not suit up during the three games they played while he was in the Quad Cities. The Flames, the top affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames, announced Lupul's release from his tryout contract yesterday.
"It's bittersweet," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "We're obviously elated to have him back, but at the same time, I would love to see him spend some time in the American League because he's a great player and he deserves it."
Lupul's return comes at a good time for his Mudbugs teammates, who were forced to play with just four defensemen on Sunday due to Lupul's absence and a suspension to Quade Lightbody. The Central Hockey League today announced the length of Lightbody's suspension stemming from an incident Saturday against Texas at four games, meaning he will miss all of this weekend's action before being eligible to return February 21st against Corpus Christi . Having Lupul back will put the Mudbugs at five healthy defensemen for this weekend's games.
"It's perfect timing for us to get him back, and we'll continue to work on his conditioning and hopefully work on getting him another opportunity in the American Hockey League," Muscutt remarked.
Bossier-Shreveport has another three-in-three set coming up this weekend, taking on Odessa on Friday and Austin on Sunday at CenturyTel Center with a road game at Austin in between on Saturday. Friday night against the Jackalopes is also Scrubs Night, when medical professionals are eligible to receive $9.00 discounted tickets by wearing their scrubs to the game. The puck will drop at 7:05 pm between the Mudbugs and Jackalopes. Individual tickets are available by calling Ticketmaster at 318-741-9700 and group tickets can be purchased through the Mudbugs office at 318-752-BUGS.
