ReadWest Literacy Day at the Scorpions
February 12, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
Donate a Children's Book for ReadWest Literacy Night and skate with the Scorpions after the game!
When: Sunday, February 17, Game time 3:15pm Scorpions vs Colorado Eagles
We are so excited that the Scorpions are hosting a ReadWest Literacy Day! They are generously giving a special rate on tickets too! Tickets only $11 each and $7 for Seniors 60+, Military, & Students 18 & under.
The children's books that are being donated will help fill the demand for books given to infant through second grade kids during our Family Literacy Programs. These programs are given at local elem schools, head start agencies, moms of preschoolers, and daycare centers throughout the year. We teach the parents the importance of reading to their kids! Marten Griego, Author of "Leaving the House of Tears", (was functionally illiteracy until 8 years ago), will get to drop a ceremonial puck, and will be on hand to sell and autograph his books. Adult and Family Literacy programs are provided free to adults and include reading, writing, GED prep, Life skills, and speaking English as a Second Language. ReadWest is a non-profit, 501c3 and is funded in part by United Way of Central New Mexico, Dollar General, New Mexico Coalition for Literacy and smaller grants and fundraising.
Hope to see many of you there not only to support the ReadWest Literacy Center, but also to support your New Mexico Scorpions.
