Laredo enters tonight's game having been swept by the Austin Ice Bats, losing 5-2, and 4-1 in Austin, and falling in a shootout 4-3 Sunday.
In Sunday's loss Jeff Bes tried to rally the Bucks, tallying two goals, his 30th and 31st scores of the season, but it was not enough as they fell in the seventh round of the sudden death shootout.
Laredo trailed by scores of 2-0, 2-1, and 3-2, but could not overcome the Ice Bats, who moved into sole possesion of fifth place in the Southern Conference playoff race.
The Bucks enter tonight's game with the Killer Bees with a six point lead (63 to 57) over Arizona for the first seed in the Southern Conference playoffs. With a win tonight Laredo would push their lead to eight over the Sundogs, who play again Wednesday against Amarillo.
The Bucks will have a new face in the line-up, with newly acquired forward Alex Goupil (13-12=25) expected to be in the line-up Tuesday, while Laredo traded away forward Rane Carnegie, and defensemen David Victor and Gabe Yeung. Laredo's second leading scorer James Hiebert will serve the final game of his three-game suspension against Rio.
With his two goals Sunday, Bes is now just two points behind the Sundogs Alex Leavitt in the CHL scoring race (77 to 75).
Laredo comes into tonight with a 11-10-2 road mark, and have lost five of their last six road contests.
The Bees have been stuggling for most of the season, posting league lows in wins (10), and points (27). Rio is in the middle of a 15-game winless streak (0-13-2), with their last win coming January 4th against the Bucks (3-2 in Hidalgo).
The Killer Bees have two players with 40 or more points, Rob Voltera (21-27=48), and all-star Travis Banga (16-29=45).
The Bucks and Bees will meet twice this week, after Tuesday's game the two will go at it again Saturday at the Dodge Arena.
