February 12, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions finished their seven game home stand shooting their way to a 3-1 victory over Amarillo. The victory moved the Scorps into a first place tie with Arizona in the Southwest Division.
The teams went to the third period tied and New took advantage of seven power plays in the final frame. Vladimir Hartinger launched from the blue line that goalie Dan McWhinney was not able to keep out of the net. Chris Robertson added an empty net man advantage goal, his second of the net to seal the win.
The Gorillas got on the board first when they capitalized on a Scorpions turnover. Jason Chafe found himself with the puck in front of the net and scored his seventh goal of the season.
New Mexico answered with a won draw in the offensive zone. Chris Robertson won the draw back and eventually found himself back with the puck and scored, tying the game at one. The goal gave Robertson in five straight games.
The Scorpions dominated the shots on goal board on the evening. Their 60 shots were most taken this season, and fifth most in franchise history. New Mexico held the Gorillas to only 18 shots, lowest for any Scorps game this season.
Friday, the Scorpions make their return to the Ft. Worth area to face the Brahmas. The game can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal and seen on the CHL Network starting at 5:50 p.m. with the pre-game show.
