Amarillo's Strong Play Earns Second Consecutive Performance Of The Week

February 12, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release


The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the Amarillo Gorillas tremendous offensive performance on January 29th that saw them score a season-high nine goals has been voted by the fans as the Performance of the Week for the week of January 28th. The game saw the Gorillas defeat the Odessa Jackalopes by a final score of 9-5. Last week, Amarillo's Bill Vandermeer earned the Performance of the Week for his six point game on January 26th versus New Mexico.

Amarillo received 645 votes (37%) defeating Odessa's Sebastien Thinel who scored a pair of goals on February 2nd becoming the Jackalopes all-time leading goal scorer. Thinel received just 38 fewer votes earning 35% of the 1735 votes cast. Amarillo's nine-goal outburst will be automatically considered for the 2007-08 CHL Performance of the Year which will be announced in April, 2008.

The Gorillas are one of the hottest teams in the CHL winning five straight games. They currently are just one point behind Austin for the fifth and final Southern Conference playoff spot.

The nominees for the CHL Performance of the Week (week 17) are as follows:

Austin's three wins in three nights over the Southern Conference leading Laredo Bucks, Feb. 8-10

Kevin Beech (YNG) making 38 saves in his first appearance for the SteelHounds earning the 4-0 shutout win over Mississippi, Feb. 10

Texas winning back-to-back games versus the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs handing the Bugs their first losses since early December and ending their 24-game point streak and 18-game home winning streak

Sebastien Laplante (COL) earning his first victory with the Colorado Eagles making 43 saves in a victory over Odessa, Feb. 8

Alexandre Vincent (ODE) making 42 saves in a 4-2 road victory over the Rocky Mountain Rage, Feb. 9
