Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - As the season nears playoff time, certain games are worth more and tonight's game is no exception. The Rocky Mountain Rage defeated the Colorado Eagles 5-3 at the Broomfield Event Center Tuesday night in game one of a home-and-home series. In the race for the Northwest Division title, the win extended Rocky Mountain's lead over the second place Eagles to seven points. The Rage was led by goaltender Scott Reid, who posted 38 saves, and forward Colt King who scored one goal and two assists. The Rage advanced to 30-11-4 (64 points) overall this season while the Eagles fell to 26-12-5 (57 points).

The Eagles took the early momentum by drawing a five-on-three opportunity and outshooting the Rage 6-3 by the 5:19 mark. From then on, fans saw end-to-end action and neither team could get an even-strength shot on goal until just under the 18 minute mark in the first period.

At 18:23, Rage left winger King scored on the game's seventh power-play opportunity.

In the second period, forward Chip Dunleavy skated down the right wing, two-on-one from Colt King and wristed the puck over the right shoulder of Eagles goaltender Sebastien Laplante. Dunleavy had scored a goal in each of the previous two Rage games as well marking his eighth goal of the season.

The Rage continued with the momentum through five-on-three and five minute powerplay opportunities in the middle of the period. Eagles goaltender Laplante kept the Rage from adding to their lead during the advantage.

Late in the period though, Rocky Mountain's Nathan Rosychuk beat Laplante when the puck hit his pads and slid over the goal line giving the Rage a 3-0 lead going into the second intermission.

Left winger Seth Leonard earned the first tally in the game for the Eagles at 2:10 of the third period. Reid made the initial pad save, but the puck bounced out and fell over the goal line as Reid tried to sit back on the puck. Rocky Mountain's Scott Wray answered back just over one minute later on the powerplay assisted by Simon Watson.

By the middle of the third period, it was Colorado's turn to shine with two goals added by left winger Steve Haddon at 8:10 and defenseman Les Borsheim at 15:14 to bring the Eagles within one goal.

With a Colorado empty net in the final two minutes, Rocky Mountain's Wray and Watson skated down ice, after receiving a pass from King, and shoveled the puck in net and ended the Eagles' rally.

Rocky Mountain returns to action tomorrow night when they travel up north to Loveland to play game two of the home and home series against their in-state rival Colorado Eagles.
