
Lundberg, Brazell lead Suns to Monday victory over BayBears

Jacksonville, Fla. - Suns starting pitcher Spike Lundberg allowed one run on four scattered hits with seven strikeouts while Craig Brazell recorded three hits, including his 16th homerun of the season with three RBI, leading the Jacksonville Suns to an 8-1 victory over the Mobile BayBears on Monday at the Baseball Grounds.
The Suns improve to 71-37 overall with a 23-15 second half record. Mobile falls to 46-61 and 19-19 in the second half.
Mobile opened the scoring with a first inning RBI groundout from Stephen Smitherman.
The 1-0 Mobile lead would not last long as Craig Brazell belted his 16th homerun of 2006 to leadoff the Suns' second inning and tie the game at 1-1.
Jacksonville added more runs on Mobile starter Sean Thompson in the fourth inning as Tony Abreu recorded an RBI single while Gabriel Gutierrez singled home two more runs to open a 4-1 Suns lead.
BayBears relief pitcher Ryan Klatt entered the game in the fifth inning trying to shut down the Suns attack, but Jacksonville continued to pile on runs. Craig Brazell doubled home Chin-Lung Hu to extend the lead to 5-1. Later in the inning, Tony Abreu singled home Brazell to extend the lead to 6-1. Abreu later scored on an error by Mobile shortstop Juan Ciriaco to open a 7-1 lead.
Craig Brazell batted again in the sixth inning and again drove home a run with a single to open Jacksonville's 8-1 lead. Brazell finished the game 3-3 with his 16th homerun of the season and three RBI, now totaling a league-leading 70 on the season.
On the other side, Suns starter Spike Lundberg rebounded from the first inning run by scattering three more hits during his seven inning outing while striking out seven. Casey Hoorelbeke pitched two innings of relief to finish the game.
Lundberg improved to 10-1 in the victory for Jacksonville while Sean Thompson fell to 4-9 in the loss for Mobile.
Jacksonville and Mobile meet for the fourth game of the series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Mobile RH Jose Oyervidez will face Jacksonville LH Scott Elbert.
