Jackson, TN (July 31st)- Issac Pavlik made the most of a spot start, throwing seven quality innings for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx as the Diamond Jaxx defeated the Tennessee Smokies 5-2. The win pulls the Diamond Jaxx to within two games of the Northern Division leading Smokies.

Pavlik got the start for Juan Mateo, who was called up to Chicago after the game. Mateo will be pitching for the Cubs out of the bullpen.

Pavlik (1-0) had a three hit shutout through seven innings. After allowing the first two hitters in the eighth inning to reach base, Diamond Jaxx manager Pat Listach went to left-hander Ed Campusano, who got the final six outs to record his third save in a Jaxx uniform. Thirteen of the twenty-one outs recorded by Pavlik were flyball outs.

Scott Moore and Jake Fox homered off Smokies losing pitcher Ross Ohlendorf (8-7) to drive in four of the Diamond Jaxx runs. Moore hit a solo homer in the second inning, his sixteenth of the season. Fox hit a three run dinger in the seventh inning to give the Diamond Jaxx a 4-0 lead. Gary Cates scored the Diamond Jaxx final run in the eighth inning.

Ohlendorf allowed four runs on five hits in seven innings of work. He walked one and struckout eleven. Danny Richar tripled in both Smokies runs in the eighth inning to pace the Smokies offense.

Game four of the five game series is set for Tuesday night at 7:05 CDT. Righty Federico Baez (2-0 1.79) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. The Smokies will counter with lefty Greg Smith (4-3 4.60).
