Mateo called up to Chicago

Jackson, TN (July 31st)- West Tenn Diamond Jaxx RHP Juan Mateo has been called up to Chicago to pitch for the Cubs. Mateo received word that he would be headed to Chicago immediately after the Diamond Jaxx 5-2 win over the Tennessee Smokies on Monday night. Mateo will be used out of the bullpen for the time being.

Mateo made eighteen appearances on the mound with the Diamond Jaxx this season, seventeen as a starter. He went 7-4 with a 2.82 ERA. In 92 2/3 innings of work, Mateo allowed thirty-two runs (twenty-nine earned) on seventy-eight hits with twenty-six walks and seventy strikeouts. The twenty-three year old right-hander yielded a .229 average to the Southern League.
