Barons defeat Montgomery, 4-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Barons defeated the Montgomery Biscuits by the score of 4-1 on Monday evening, July 31st, in Southern League action at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

Birmingham starter Lance Broadway (7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K) allowed just one run and struck out seven while evening his record at 7-7. Corey Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Barons (48-59, 17-20) while Ricardo Nanita, who extended his hitting streak to 13 games, went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Michael Myers (1-for-4) extended his own hitting streak to 12 games and Ehren Wassermann moved into third place in the single-season Birmingham record book with his 21st save.

Francisco Leandro and Michael Coleman (RBI) both went 2-for-4 for the Biscuits (56-51, 20-18) as starter Jason Cromer (5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) fell to 1-4.

The Barons and Biscuits will continue their five-game series on Tuesday, August 1st, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. LHP Mike Prochaska (2-3, 5.72 ERA) is listed as the probable starter for Montgomery, while RHP Lucas Harrell (0-2, 11.00 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Birmingham.
