Lumberjacks Have Banner Day at 2013 NHL Entry Draft

MUSKEGON, Michigan (June 30th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are proud to announce that a trio of players were selected today in the 51st edition of the National Hockey League Entry Draft at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The first Lumberjacks player to be selected in this year's draft came early in the second round at 38th overall when the Buffalo Sabres came a calling and selected Forward Connor Hurley. This season, Hurley spent 13 games with Muskegon totaling nine points (one goal and eight assists) combined between the regular season and playoffs.

The Eagan, Minnesota native also played for Edina (Minnesota) High School and had 47 points (17 goals and 30 assists) in 28 games played. The Notre Dame commit also became the highest Lumberjack to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft since joining the United States Hockey League three seasons ago.

The next Lumberjacks player to be selected would happen in the fifth round at 141st overall as Defenseman Michael Brodzinski would be selected by the San Jose Sharks. The Blaine, Minnesota native played in 65 games with the Lumberjacks last season totaling 34 points (16 goals and 18 assists) to go along with a plus-11 rating.

Brodzinski was also received numerous USHL awards throughout the 2012-13 season that included being named to the All-Rookie Team and being named the league's "Defenseman of the Week" twice. Brodzinski will attend the University of Minnesota this upcoming fall.

Shortly after in the sixth round, another Lumberjacks defenseman would be selected at 153rd overall in Ben Storm. Last season, the Calumet, Michigan native accumulated 12 points (two goals and ten assists) to go along with a plus-eight rating in 55 games played with Muskegon.

Storm was one of four Lumberjacks that participated in the 2013 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Muskegon last season and will play his college hockey for St. Cloud State University this upcoming season.
