Sharks Make Jackson Late Choice

June 30, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-With the 201st overall selection in the NHL Draft Sunday in New Jersey, the San Jose Sharks selected forward Jake Jackson.

The 5-11, 182-pound native of Oakdale, Minnesota, spent most of the winter playing for Tartan High School. However, prior to the Minnesota high school season, Jackson appeared in two Waterloo games while the Hawks were missing several players at the 2012 World Junior A Challenge. He scored a goal for Waterloo during a 5-2 win against the Sioux City Musketeers.

The Sharks entered the 2013 NHL Draft having selected more Black Hawks than any other league franchise, five since 1991. Their most recent Waterloo pick was Lee Moffie, after his freshman season at Michigan, in 2010. The most successful to this point has been Joe Pavelski. After being a seventh round choice in 2003, Pavelski has enjoyed a seven-year NHL career beginning in 2006, entirely with San Jose.
