Ice Pair Selected in 2013 NHL Draft

The Indiana Ice continued their presence in the NHL Central Scouting Eyes as four players with Ice ties were selected in the 2013 NHL Draft from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Indy forwards Aidan Muir (Edmonton Oilers) and Brian Pinho (Washington Capitals) were both picked in the later rounds of the draft. Since 2004, 26 Ice players have been drafted by NHL teams.

Aidan Muir was the first Iceman to hear his name called as Edmonton selected him with the 113th overall selection in the fouth round. The 6-3 forward was picked first overall in the 2013 USHL Entry Draft earlier this year.

Prior joining the Indy squad this season, Muir lined up with the Victory Honda U18 program out of Detroit. In 37 games with Victory Honda, he tallied 40 points (17G, 23A) and 41 penalty minutes.

Brian Pinho was the next to go as Capitals added the forward to their stable with the 174th overall pick in the sixth round. The Beverly, MA native was also selected by Indy with the sixth overall pick in this year's USHL Entry Draft.

The St. John's Prep product produced 36 points (12G, 24A) in 21 games last season. Pinho joins several former Icemen in the Capitals' system including defensemen John Carlson and Cameron Schilling and forwards Brent Gwidt, Stanislav Galiev and Brett Bruneteau.

Other drafted players with Ice ties include Adam Erne (Quebec-QMJHL) and Justin Bailey (Kitchener-OHL). Erne (33rd selection-Tampa Bay Lightning) suited up with Indy during the 2010-2011 season at 15 years old, recording 18 points (10G, 8A) in 45 contests. Bailey (52nd selection-Buffalo Sabres) played in two games for the Ice in 2011-2012, recording an assist on his second shift with Indy.
