Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Hollywood writers might want to get their pens ready as a script could be written about the 2014 Clark Cup Championship series when it ends on Tuesday, May 20 when the Indiana Ice and Waterloo Black Hawks faceoff in game five from Young Arena. The puck is set to drop at 8:05 pm Eastern.
Indy and Waterloo forced game five after the teams split a pair of competitions at Pan Am Pavilion on Friday and Saturday. The Ice dominated the pace of play despite facing a 28-24 shot deficit in Friday's
4-1 win over the Black Hawks. Tyler Pham (G, A), Scott Conway (G, A) and Alex Talcott (2A) finished the evening with two points apiece while Mitch Hults and Patrick Newell added a pair of lamplighters in the contest. Jason Pawloski finished the night with 27 saves on 28 Waterloo shots.
Waterloo then turned the tides against Indy on Saturday with a six-goal rally in the second and third periods to capture a 7-2 win and take the series back to their home ice. Defenseman Josh Jacobs notched his third goal of the series while Hults potted a tally to extend his goal streak to three games. Pawloski and Hayden Stewart split time in net.
This is the first time in the USHL's Tier 1 history (2002-present) that two top-seeded teams have faced off in a Clark Cup final and the sixth time for a game-five situation. History has not favored the lower seed as the Des Moines Buccaneers (2005-06) were the only team to upset their hosts in the final game of the season. The Buccaneers, led by NHLers Kyle Okposo (NY Islanders), Trevor Lewis (LA Kings) and Jeff Petry (Edmonton), topped the Sioux Falls Stampede in game five to capture the 2006 Clark Cup championship.
Game five will be broadcast live on www.ushl.fasthockey.com . For all the latest Ice information, please visit www.indianaice.com or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
The Indiana Ice is a member of the United States Hockey League, America's only Tier One League.
