Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - Dawel Lugo recorded his sixth multi-hit game of the young season as the Toledo Mud Hens fell 10-2 to the Pawtucket Red Sox on Friday at Fifth Third Field.
Lugo extended his hit streak to eight consecutive games, going 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI. Grayson Greiner went 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk, and a run scored, while Mike Gerber finished 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Despite the result, the Mud Hens (5-3) remain atop the West Division standings following Buffalo's 11-1 victory over Indianapolis.
The bullpen was strong for Toledo, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out six. Phillipe Aumont had his best outing of the campaign, throwing a pair of scoreless innings and surrendering one hit while fanning three. Artie Lewicki had his individual six-game win streak snapped, tossing 2.2 innings in defeat.
Pawtucket got on the board first, recording three runs in the opening frame. Rusney Castillo started the contest with a double into right-center, and scored when Aneury Tavarez grounded a base hit to left. The visitors kept the line moving in the early stages, as Ivan De Jesus Jr. added a sacrifice fly to right to plate Tavarez before Chad De La Guerra lined a single into center to drive in Sam Travis as the Red Sox grabbed a 3-0 lead.
The Red Sox added a pair of runs in the second, and tacked on three more in the third to open up an 8-0 advantage. However, Toledo answered back with a run in the bottom of the third. Greiner tripled into the gap in right-center to lead off the frame, and scored when Pete Kozma lifted a sacrifice fly into left-center.
Pawtucket tacked on another run in the top of the fourth, as Jeremy Barfield lined a double into center to score Travis and give the Red Sox a 9-1 lead.
The Mud Hens pushed another run across in bottom of the seventh. After Gerber ripped a leadoff double into right, Lugo brought him home with a base hit down the right-field line.
Toledo looked to rally in the bottom of the eighth, as Rodriguez, Lugo, and Stewart all walked to load the bases with two outs. Mahtook sent a fly ball into shallow right, but right fielder Ramon Flores circled the wagons to make the catch and retire the side. Barfield wrapped up the scoring in the top of the ninth with a solo shot to left-center.
The Mud Hens are back in action tomorrow for another matchup against Pawtucket. First pitch from Fifth Third Field is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
