May 29, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Lansing Lugnuts News Release
Battle Creek, Mich.- For the second consecutive day, the Lansing Lugnuts received an outstanding performance from their starting pitcher, taking a 2-0 decision at C.O. Brown Stadium over the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays Monday afternoon. The Lugnuts pitching staff has now tossed 19 straight shutout innings.
Aaron Tressler tossed a seven inning masterpiece for Lansing, dominating the plate and Devil Rays' hitters all day. He finished the game allowing just four hits while fanning five en route to his second win of the season. Tressler's start came just one day after Russ Savickas threw seven innings of shutout baseball against Fort Wayne. Po-Hsuan Keng threw two perfect innings to nail down the save for the Lugnuts.
Lansing grabbed the lead in the fourth inning when Cory Patton scored on an Anthony Hatch single into center field to make the score 1-0. Patton's single earlier in the inning improved his hitting streak to 11 games.
The Lugnuts added an insurance run in the ninth. Luke Hetherington led the inning off with a single and moved to third base on a groudout by Patton. Hetherington just got under the tag of Cesar Suarez at third as he was running the entire way. David Hicks plated Hetherington with a two out single into right-center field to push the lead to 2-0.
Lost in the game was the effort of Southwest Michigan starter Jeff Kamrath. He tossed six innings of four hit baseball and allowed just one run, but suffered the loss for the Rays.
Lansing (31-18) has now won six consecutive games, five of which have come on the road. The Lugnuts and Southwest Michigan (25-25) will continue their four game set on Tuesday evening in Battle Creek. Billy Carnline (4-2, 1.88) will take the hill for Lansing, while Mike Wlodarczyk (5-1, 1.34) will start for the Devil Rays. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
