Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - After being held to just one run yesterday, the Lugnuts' bats came alive early and often on Saturday as Lansing defeated the Beloit Snappers 6-3 before 2,412 fans at Oldsmobile Park. The Lugnuts pounded out 13 hits in the game.
Down 1-0 in the third, Lansing's Jacob Butler singled home Sean Shoffit to tie the game at 1-1. Joey Metropoulos then stepped up and blasted a two run homer to left field to push the Lugnuts ahead 3-1. Shoffit extended his hitting streak to 10 games earlier in the ballgame.
Lansing added two more runs in the next frame when Chris Gutierrez ripped a two run triple to the left field corner that made the score 5-2.
The Snappers fought back in the eighth when Andrew Thompson hit a home run just over the right field wall to cut the lead to 6-3. It was the first run of the year given up by Lugnuts reliever Po-Hsuan Keng, who had tossed 16 scoreless innings.
Paul Phillips nailed down the save for Lansing, his second of the year.
Chi-Hung Cheng (3-1) notched his third win of the year by tossing 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits.
Kyle Waldrop (1-2) suffered the loss for the Snappers after giving up five runs on seven hits in just four innings of work.
Lansing (11-5) and Beloit (9-7) will play game three of the four game series on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:05 p.m. Kristian Bell (2-0, 4.20 ERA) will start for Lansing while Brian Duensing (0-1, 2.60 ERA) will take the ball for the Snappers.
Oldsmobile Park's gates will open at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday for the Lansing Board of Water and Light Autograph Day. Lugnuts players will be signing autographs on the concourse during that time. Sunday is also Meijer Kids Day and Pepsi Kids Run the Bases after the game.
