Lugnuts Edge Whitecaps In Ninth

LANSING,MI- A sacrifice fly from catcher A.J. Jimenez produced the game-winning run as the Lansing Lugnuts beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 4-3, in the bottom of the ninth at cloudy Oldsmobile Park. The 'Caps lose just their second game of the year and move to 7-2 while Lansing improves to 2-7.

The Lugnuts got a long ball in the first inning from Brian Van Kirk. The solo shot to left gave the Lugnuts a 1-0 lead.

Justin McClanahan of Lansing hit his own solo homerun in the bottom of the second, helping the Lugnuts build a 2-0 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Jordan Newton slammed his second homerun of the season to cut the lead in half.

Lansing's McClanahan would strike again in the home-half of the fourth. His RBI double upped the score to 3-1 in favor of Lansing.

West Michigan tied the game at three when Ronnie Bourquin's two-run double brought home Jordan Newton and Bryan Pounds in the sixth.

Tied at three in the ninth, Lansing loaded the bases and won the game on the sacrifice fly by A.J. Jimenez that plated pinch-runner Markus Brisker.

Jordan Newton finished the day with two hits including the homerun. Jordan Lennerton had hits, and Ronnie Bourquin had a double that drove in two runs.

The Whitecaps and Lugnuts will play the fourth and final game of the series Monday night at Oldsmobile Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
