South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Midland, MI - With two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Great Lakes Loons turned a one-run deficit into a one-run lead and defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks 3-2. With the win Sunday, the Loons took the series from South Bend three games to one.

Reliever Bryan Woodall (LP, 0-2) allowed three hits in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Loons took the lead for the first time since the fifth inning. With one out, Jaime Pedroza singled to center to start the rally. With two outs, Kyle Russell doubled to left-center, scoring Pedroza and tying the game at two. Tony Delmonico followed with a single back up the middle into center, bringing in Russell as the go-ahead run.

Javy Guerra (WP, 1-0) pitched around a leadoff hit in the eighth, and set the Silver Hawks down in order in the ninth to earn his first win of the year.

South Bend starter Ryan Cook (ND) turned in his second consecutive strong outing. The right-hander allowed just one unearned run on five hits in 6.0 innings, but did not factor in the decision due to the Loons late rally.

Offensively for the Silver Hawks, Brendan Duffy picked up two more hits to raise his average to a team best .433. Isaias Asencio provided the lone RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

After an off day in South Bend on Monday, the Silver Hawks return to Michigan for a four game series at Lansing beginning Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. South Bend gives the starting nod to RHP Brett Moorhouse (0-1, 5.79 ERA) while the Lugnuts counter with LHP John Anderson (0-1, 1.80). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 PM on 1490 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
