Dragons Lose Big in Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne, Ind.-The Fort Wayne TinCaps scored seven runs in the second inning and went on to a 14-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon, handing the Dragons their eighth consecutive loss. The win improved Fort Wayne's record to 10-0 on the season and dropped the Dragons to 1-9. The game was called in the eighth inning due to rain.

Dragons starting pitcher Leonardo Astorga (0-2) was plagued by control problems in the second, allowing four walks and a hit batsman in the inning as Fort Wayne enjoyed their second seven-run inning of the series. The TinCaps scored two more runs against Astorga in the fourth and then plated five runs against Dragons reliever Oscar Castro in the fifth to build a 14-0 lead.

Tony Brown connected on a two-run home run in the eighth for the Dragons, his first homer of the year, to avoid the shutout.

Dragons right fielder Byron Wiley provided the rest of the offensive highlights on the day, going 3 for 3 to raise his batting average from .250 to .368. Kevin Coddington had two hits for Dayton and went 7 for 14 (.500) on the road trip.

Astorga suffered the loss, allowing nine earned runs on six hits over three innings. He walked five and struck out one.

Fort Wayne swept the four-game series as the Dragons went 0-7 on their road trip. The TinCaps broke their club record for consecutive wins on Saturday when they won their ninth straight game.

The Dragons do not play on Monday. They will open a four game series at Fifth Third Field against the Great Lakes Loons on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Dayton's Matt Fairel (0-1, 4.70) will start against JonMichael Redding (1-1, 4.66) of Great Lakes. The Dragons will need a win to avoid matching a club record nine-game losing streak.
