
Kernels rally comes up short in 6-4 loss to Kane County

Angel Castillo hit a two run HR in the top of the ninth inning, but Kane County reliever Jose Guzman struck out the tying run to preserve a 6-4 Cougar win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Elfstrom Field in Geneva, IL on Sunday.
Matt Crawford and Carlos Colmenares combined for four of the Kernels eight hits in the game as Crawford and Tyson Auer added an RBI. Kernels starter Jayson Miller (1-1) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four over six innings in taking the loss.
Kane County reliever Joshua Selenis (3-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Anthony Capra. Franklin Hernandez was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as the Cougars out hit the Kernels, 9-8.
The loss is the third in a row for the Kernels and is the first series they've lost in the 2009 season. This series is the only time the Kernels head to Kane County in the MWL regular season.
After an off day on Monday, the Kernels open a four game home series with the Clinton LumberKings on Tuesday, April 21. It's a 98.1 KHAK Two Dollar Tuesday where select sandwiches, beverages and snacks are just two dollars. It's also Food Allergy Awareness Night - during the game, no products containing peanuts or tree nuts will be served at the concession stands and Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium will be cleaned of any remnants of nut residue before the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm.
