Louisville Bats News Release
TOLEDO, OH- The Louisville Bats (29-47) were held to five hits in a 6-1 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens (40-35) on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field.
Louisville starter Brandon Williamson (0-1, 9.00) was tested early in his Triple-A debut when he surrendered three straight singles to the first three Toledo hitters to load the bases.
He was able to limit the damage by whiffing Brendon Davis, allowing a sacrifice fly, and making an excellent defensive play to throw out Zack Short, who attempted a bunt for a hit, to end the inning with Toledo holding a 1-0 lead.
Toledo added another run to the lead in the home half of the third when Akil Baddoo sent his first Triple-A home run of the season, a solo shot, sailing into the second-deck seats just inside the right-field foul pole.
With an RBI-single and RBI-double from Jack Lopez and Jamie Westbrook, respectively, in the fourth, Toledo sent the game to the fifth inning, touting a 4-0 advantage.
Akil Baddoo struck again in the sixth, hitting his second home run of the game, this one a two-run moonshot, that landed on the roof above the seats where his first home run came to rest.
The Louisville offense scratched their run in the sixth inning, but were only able to muster a total of five hits in the game.
Toledo starter and former Bat Michael Mariot (7-1, 4.39) set the tone for the pitching staff, tossing five scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits and a walk, while striking out four.
The Bats will look for the split in tomorrow's series finale between the Bats and the Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Right-hander T.J. Zeuch (0-4, 11.64) will take to the hill for Louisville as righty Elvin Rodriguez will get the ball for Toledo (3-1, 3.32).
