Indianapolis Indians News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After the Indianapolis Indians scored eight runs in the top of the second inning, highlighted by a Yoshi Tsutsugo grand slam, the Nashville Sounds mounted a comeback win on Saturday night, 10-8.

Down 8-3 after Indy's second-inning burst, Nashville (46-30) slowly crept back into the game with three runs in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth to tie the game at 8-8. Scoring stagnated until the bottom of the eighth, when Sounds first baseman Jon Singleton blasted a two-run home run to center field off of John O'Reilly (L, 2-2) to set up Nashville's third comeback win of the series.

Sounds right-hander Peter Strzelecki (W, 4-0) slammed the door shut on the Indians in the ninth, with Nashville allowing just four Indianapolis baserunners from the third inning onward.

The Sounds met Indians starter Miguel Yajure with immediate pressure, stringing together four consecutive singles to lead off the bottom of the first. Paired with a couple of sacrifice flies, Nashville jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one frame.

The Indians (37-38) wasted no time responding to Nashville's three-spot, pouring on eight runs and sending 12 hitters to the plate in the top of the second. Along with Tsutsugo's grand slam, shortstop Rodolfo Castro blasted his second homer of the road trip in the inning, taking Sounds starter Marcus Walden 410 feet deep to left-center field for a two-run shot.

The 23 runs that the Indians have allowed over the last two games are the most in any two-game stretch this season. In the losing effort, outfielder Travis Swaggerty extended his on-base streak to 21 games with a pair of singles - both coming in Indy's eight-run second - and rehabbing infielder Kevin Newman extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a run-scoring double in the second as part of a three-hit performance.

Indianapolis and Nashville conclude the six-game set at First Horizon Park tomorrow with a 7:05 PM ET first pitch. No starter has been named for the Indians, while Alec Bettinger (0-4, 6.59 ERA) gets the nod for the second time this week for the Sounds. The Indians then return home for a Fourth of July matchup with the Iowa Cubs on Monday.
