
Louisville Defeated by Bulls After Rain Delay, 11-4

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (8-13) were defeated by the Durham Bulls (9-10)by an 11-4 score at Louisville Slugger Field. The game started at 9 p.m. after the fifth and longest rain delay of the season for the Bats at home.
Both teams scored early in the game making the score 2-1 after the first. Andrew Velazquez, who went 2-for-4 for the Bulls, started the game with a leadoff double. In return, Brian O'Grady hit a double of his own in the bottom of the first that scored Christian Colon.
Durham scored three in the third inning with two outs. Jake Smolinski got an RBI single and Nick Ciuffo followed with a double that scored two making the score 5-1. The Bats countered with Rob Refsnyder, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, starting the bottom of the third with a double and Josh VanMeter hitting a two-run home run making the score 5-3.
Cody Reed walked his first two batters when he came in to pitch in the fourth. The Bulls scored on a fielder's choice after the walks putting them up 6-3. Jimmy Herget came in to pitch for the Bats in the top of the eighth giving up a double to Kean Wong and then walking four to put the Bulls up 8-3. The Bulls added more runs when Nate Lowe, who went 3-for-3, doubled to cleared the bases bringing the score to 11-3.
The Bats scored a late run, and their first since the third inning,in the ninth after Kyle Wren tripled and a Refsnyder sac fly scored him bringing the score to 11-4.
Odrisamer Despaigne (1-1, 5.40) started the game for the Bats, pitching 3.1 innings giving up seven hits, six runs, walking two, and striking out six.The win went to Cole Sulser (1-2, 7.50) for Durham who pitched an inning walking one and striking out two.
Louisville stays home to play the Norfolk Tides, Triple-A affiliate to the Baltimore Orioles for a three-game series at Louisville Slugger Field. First pitch is set for Friday night at 7:00 p.m. with right-hander Lucas Sims (1-0, 3.15) set to pitch for the Bats. He is set to oppose Tides left-hander Josh Rogers (1-1, 6.00).
