Louisville City FC Adds Forward Sunny Jane
December 19, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
LOUISVILLE - Louisville City FC is delighted to announce the signing of forward Sunny Jane ahead of the 2019 USL season, pending league and federation clearance. The Lesotho international and graduate of Louisville's Trinity High School becomes the fifth member of a formidable forward line and the 19th rostered player in total so far for coach John Hackworth.
Jane expressed his excitement about the opportunity to return to the USL, and more importantly, to return home:
"I am from Louisville and went to Trinity High School so playing for my city has always been my dream since the team joined the USL. This is a dream move for me and I've waited for this opportunity for so long. I am coming home and nothing is better than that for me."
Coach Hackworth, who was tipped off on the player's availability in part thanks to former goalkeeper coach and Lesotho international Thabane Sutu, mirrored the forward's comments:
"I owe a thank you to Thabane for letting me know that Sunny was available. Sunny is a player that I have admired from afar for a long time. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with him and believe he can help us reach our always lofty expectations.
A former member of United 1996 in Louisville, Jane's path saw him land in Maryland as a member of the storied Terrapins program for four years until 2013. In January 2014, Jane signed with Wilmington Hammerheads (USL Pro) where he played for two years. The skillful forward then made the switch to the Richmond Kickers for two years until 2017 before signing for Phnom Penh Crown of the Cambodian League. In his short span abroad, Jane registered seven appearances and scored two goals with the club.
Jane's domestic success on the pitch transferred to the international level after he elected to represent his native Lesotho in June 2014. Featuring in African Cup of Nations qualifiers and the 2015 COSAFA Cup, Jane has scored one goal in his nine appearances on the international stage.
The forward will join the team in February when its 2019 preseason camp begins at world renowned IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
