San Antonio FC Announces 2019 USL Championship Schedule
December 19, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC will host back-to-back home matches at Toyota Field to open the 2019 USL Championship season, hosting Phoenix Rising FC on March 9 and Portland Timbers 2 on March 16. SAFC will then round out its March schedule by playing its first two road matches of the season, first traveling to Colorado Springs to face the Switchbacks on March 23, followed by a trip to face the Austin Bold in the first edition of the Central Texas Derby on March 30.
To complete the 2019 schedule, San Antonio FC will play every Western Conference team twice - once at home and once on the road - meaning each of San Antonio's 17 home matches at Toyota Field will feature a unique opponent. In a balanced schedule, the club's longest homestands and road trips of the season both stand at just two matches, which will occur multiple times throughout the campaign.
Toyota Field will host three new Western Conference expansion sides in 2019, starting with back-to-back home matches against El Paso Locomotive on June 26 and Austin Bold FC on July 3 with the latter helping celebrate Independence Day. The third and final expansion side visits the Alamo City when New Mexico United faces SAFC on Aug. 24.
San Antonio FC will get in on the local celebration when they host Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Friday, April 26 during Fiesta San Antonio ® season. The game marks the first time in the previous three USL seasons that the Alamo City club will host a match during the two-week Fiesta San Antonio ® celebration that remains such an important part of San Antonio culture.
San Antonio FC will play 27 Saturday matches, four Wednesday matches, two Friday matches and one Sunday match during the 2019 season. SAFC will host 14 Saturday matches, two Wednesday matches and one Friday match at Toyota Field over the course of the season. All SAFC home matches will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. and start times for 2019 road matches will be announced at a later date.
In addition, the league announced today that the 2019 USL Cup Playoffs will expand to include 10 teams from each conference, with the lowest four seeds in each conference opening the postseason in the Play-In Round. The single-elimination format will then continue for the following four weekends in a fixed-bracket format with the higher seed in each matchup serving as host through the Eastern and Western Conference Finals. The 2019 USL Cup will be held between Nov. 14-18, 2019 and be hosted by the conference champion with the better regular-season record.
Fans who want to guarantee their place at Toyota Field for the upcoming season can purchase season tickets or partial flex plans by contacting the SAFC sales office at 210-444-5657 or by visiting SanAntonioFC.com. Tickets for individual SAFC matches will go on sale at a later date.
