ETHAN ZOHN TO JOIN KCAL 9 BROADCAST TEAM FOR THIS SATURDAY'S MATCH: Ethan Zohn, winner of television reality show SURVIVOR: AFRICA and a recent member of the cast of SURVIVOR All-Stars will join the Los Angeles Galaxy announcing team for five broadcasts on KCAL 9 during the 2004 MLS season. Zohn's first match of the season with veteran Galaxy broadcasters Max Bretos and Allen Hopkins will be this Saturday, May 1 at New England Revolution. He will also work the matches Sept. 4th at Colorado Rapids, Sept. 18th at Dallas Burn, Sept. 25th at San Jose Earthquakes and Oct. 16 at Kansas City Wizards. It will not be Zohn's first experience as a sideline reporter for Galaxy broadcasts. He made his debut on the sidelines during the club's 2002 regular season finale vs. San Jose Earthquakes on September 21, a 1-0 Galaxy victory at Spartan Stadium.

GALAXY KNOCK OFF CREW, HOLD ON TO FIRST PLACE IN THE WEST: Carlos Ruiz added to his league-leading goal-scoring total by scoring in his fourth straight game to start the season as the Los Angeles Galaxy captured a 2-0 victory over the Columbus Crew at The Home Depot Center on April 24. Ruiz's fourth and fifth goals of the season allowed the Galaxy to continue their undefeated start to the season while the Crew have now dropped each of their opening three matches, the worst start in club history. Galaxy rookie Joseph Ngwenya's initiative in the 58th minute led to Ruiz's opening goal. Ngwenya was brought down by Columbus' Duncan Oughton as he penetrated the right side of the Crew penalty area and referee Ricardo Salazar pointed to the penalty spot. A minute later Ruiz calmly placed the spot kick to the right of goalkeeper Jon Busch for a 1-0 lead the home team would not give up. Crew Head Coach Greg Andrulis made two substitutions in the 81st minute to add to his team's attacking pressure but two minutes later, and after Columbus forward Edson Buddle placed a header high of the crossbar, Ruiz foiled the Crew's plans with a spectacular goal. The Guatemalan international started the play by feeding left back Paul Broome on the left flank. Broome then dribbled by Oughton, sending a cross into the center of the box where Ruiz used perfect coordination to strike a right-footed volley that made it through the legs of defender Robin Fraser and past Busch for a 2-0 Galaxy victory.

CALIFF, VICTORINE UNDERGO MRI'S ON MONDAY MORNING: After sustaining injuries last week, Galaxy defender Danny Califf and midfielder Sasha Victorine each were subject to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams on Monday morning. Victorine was examined to measure the extent of a right ankle sprain suffered in training last week while Califf will learn the severity of a right Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) strain, which occurred in the second half of the Galaxy's 2-0 defeat of Columbus at The Home Depot Center Saturday night. The prognosis for both players will not be known until Tuesday.
