
Overnight Soccer Tournament at Giants Stadium to Benefit the American Cancer Society

(Monday, April 26 - Secaucus, NJ) - The MetroStars announce today that they have formed a partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to help promote their first-ever "Relay for Life" event at Giants Stadium.
"Relay for Life" is the ACS's signature fundraising activity, offering the community a chance to participate in the fight against cancer. The "Relay for Life" is an overnight an event, taking place at Giants Stadium on Friday, June 18th into Saturday, June 19th. The "Relay" includes teams of people walking or running around a "Relay" course throughout the night. The "Relay" course will be set up inside the Giants Stadium bubble, along with various other fun activities.
The MetroStars partnership with ACS will bring a unique element to the Giants Stadium "Relay for Life". This year's event will include an overnight soccer tournament. The 7v7 tournament will take place on the Giants Stadium field and run from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. The tournament is open to adult teams with players 18 and older.
"We are excited to be a part of this truly unique event," said MetroStars President and General Manager, Nick Sakiewicz. "We think the soccer community is going to get behind this in a big way. It's going to be a great time and a fun way to raise money for an excellent cause."
"The American Cancer Society is truly delighted to have the support of the Metrostars at our first-ever Relay For Life event at Giants Stadium," said Donald Distasio, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society of New York and New Jersey. "Partnering with the Metrostars will help raise the visibility of Relay For Life and add an exciting element to the evening's planned activities."
32 teams of 10 players will be accepted. Each team is guaranteed three (3) thirty-minute games on the Giants Stadium field. Advancing teams could play up to six (6) games. Each team will also receive 20 tickets to the MetroStars June 30th game versus the Colorado Rapids.
The entry fee is $700 and will help benefit ACS. Tournament participants will be invited to participate in all "Relay for Life" activities and fundraising.
