Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, MI - On an unseasonably cool night at Dow Diamond, the Great Lakes Loons (57-48) were led by their pitching staff en route to a 5-1 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (50-55). Dodgers #1 prospect Bobby Miller pitched for the first time since July 23rd after a stint on the injured list throwing two and 2/3 scoreless innings.
After a 12-11, 11-inning loss on Wednesday night the Loons bounced back behind Miller (2.2 IP, 0 ER), Cole Percival (2.1 IP, 1 ER), Kevin Malisheski (2.0 IP, 0 ER), and Braidyn Fink (2.0 IP, 0 ER). With the win, Great Lakes holds serve with the rest of the teams in the High-A Central playoff race. The Loons remain tied with Lake County, who are also one game back of Cedar Rapids for the second and final playoff spot.
The Loons scored three runs in the first inning on four separate base hits from Ryan Ward, Andy Pages, Jorbit Vivas, and Brandon Lewis all off Fort Wayne starter Gabe Mosser (L, 4-6). Great Lakes added to their lead with two runs in the sixth inning. Vivas, Ward, and Lewis all finished with two hits.
Fort Wayne's only run came in on a Tirso Ornelas home run in the fourth inning off Percival.
Great Lakes and Fort Wayne continue their current six-game series on Friday night with a 7:05 p.m. EDT first pitch. The Loons expect to start right-hander Logan Boyer (5.51 ERA) to face off against righty Carlos Guarate (7.79 ERA).
The Great Lakes Loons have been the Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007. Dow Diamond serves as the team's home and also houses the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, and ESPN 100.9-FM.
