Loons Pitcher Elisaul Pimentel Needs Your Vote

July 19, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Great Lakes Loons News Release

Great Lakes Loons starting pitcher Elisaul Pimentel has been selected by Minor League Baseball to compete in the 4th annual Minors Moniker Madness, an online competition looking for the best name in Minor League Baseball. Pimentel and 63 other Minor Leaguers with unique names are entered into a tournament-style bracket with fan voting determining the winner of each matchup.

Pimentel, seeded fifth in the Natty Nattress bracket, faces off with twelve seed Sugar Ray Marimon of the Burlington Bees in Round One. Round One voting runs from Monday, July 19th through Monday, July 26th. Fans can cast votes at www.milb.com/madness or can click the Minors Moniker Madness link located on the home page of Loons.com. Once the votes are tallied after Round One, players will move forward through the brackets until only one name is left standing. Previous winners of Minors Moniker Madness are Dusty Napoleon (2009), Will Startup (2008) and Houston Summers (2007).

For Pimentel, winning the contest will be another trophy he can take away from his 2010 campaign, having already earned Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors in June. To date, Pimentel has compiled an 8-3 record with 3.27 ERA in 15 starts for the Loons.

Last year's winner, Dusty Napoleon, says that getting out the fan vote is what it's all about.

"People were really getting into [the contest]," said Napoleon. "I know my brother was sending out a lot of e-mails. And I went to a big high school, so a lot of people there jumped on board and were passing it along."

"Elisaul has put together a great season so far and we'd love to repay his efforts by getting out the vote in the competition," says Chris Mundhenk, Loons Vice-President of Marketing and Entertainment. "This is a great promotion because it allows our fans to interact and compete against fans in other minor league markets."

The Great Lakes Loons are the fourth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
