South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Clinton, IA - Keon Broxton accounted for all four of the Silver Hawks runs with four RBIs Monday at Clinton, lifting South Bend to a 4-1 win over the LumberKings and ending the team's six game losing streak in the process.
Broxton led off the sixth inning with a solo homer, jumping all over a 3-2 pitch from Clinton starter Erasmo Ramirez (LP, 6-4). The blast to left was Broxton's second home run this season and it tied the game at 1-1.
Broxton then gave the Silver Hawks the lead with a three run triple in the top of the seventh. Ramon Castillo singled, Tyson Van Winkle walked, and David Narodowski was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Broxton worked a 3-1 count and then drove the ball the opposite way just inside the foul line for the triple. The 15th three-bagger of the year for Broxton is the most of any player in baseball this season.
Diogenes Rosario (ND) started for South Bend and gave the Silver Hawks a chance to win, allowing only one run in five innings on a Mario Martinez RBI groundout.
Adam Worthington (WP, 3-1) and Yonata Ortega (SV, 19) did the rest. Worthington went 3.0 innings without allowing a hit to get the victory, while Ortega pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 19th save.
In addition to Broxton's heroics, Bobby Borchering (14 games) and David Nick (eight games) both extended their season high hitting steaks. Narodowski had two more hits on Monday to finish with five hits over the last two games.
