Loons Make it Two in a Row

The Great Lakes Loons won their second consecutive game, besting the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-3 before a crowd of 2,533 Tuesday night at Dow Diamond.

Clayton Kershaw (3-0) struck out eight batters through 5 2/3 innings of work to pick up the win. Seven of Kershaw's eight strikeouts were on called strikes. Jesus Rodriguez recorded the final out of the sixth and pitched three more innings to record his second save.

All five Loons' runs came in the fourth inning off reliever Steve Richard (0-1). Trailing 2-0 entering the inning, David Sutherland tied the game with a run-scoring single. The Loons took a 3-2 lead on an RBI double by Scott Van Slyke. Trayvon Robinson drove home two runs with a single to give the Loons a 5-2 advantage.

Wisconsin added one run in the ninth on a triple by Kuo Hui Lo.

Tony Butler started for the Timber Rattlers and was limited to two perfect innings after coming off the disabled list.

These same two teams square off again Wednesday night at Dow Diamond for Game Two of this four-game series. Chemical Bank sponsors Lucky Hot Dog Night at the ballpark Wednesday.
