MIDLAND, MI -- The Great Lakes Loons scored five times in the fourth inning in a 5-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at Dow Diamond. That was enough for Clayton Kershaw to earn his third win of the season.

Wisconsin (6-22) got on the board first with a pair of second inning runs. Gavin Dickey drove in the first run with a single. Ougi Diaz plated the other run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Timber Rattler starting pitcher Tony Butler was making his first appearance off the disabled list and was limited to two innings. However, Butler retired all six batters he faced with a pair of strikeouts before leaving the game in the hands of Steven Richard.

Richard worked a scoreless third inning, but the Loons (13-18) got to him in the fourth. A single and an error put the first two runners of the inning aboard. Adolfo Gonzalez singled in the first run. An RBI single by David Sutherland tied the game. Later in the inning, Scott Van Slyke's double drove in the go ahead run. Trayvon Robinson singled in the final two runs of the inning with a two-out hit.

Kershaw settled down after the second inning. He allowed five hits, but only one after the second, and struck out eight in his 5-2/3 innings of work. Jesus Rodriguez relieved and held the Rattlers off the bases until he hit Leury Bonilla in the top of the ninth. Kuo Hui Lo tripled to knock in Bonilla and bring the tying run to the plate. But, Rodriguez got the final out for his second save of the season.

Game two of the series is Wednesday night. Chris Tillman (1-2, 4.15) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Thomas Melgarejo (0-1, 4.07) is set to start for the Loons. Game time is 7:05pm EDT/6:00pm CDT.
