Great Lakes Loons News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - Justin Hancock held the Great Lakes Loons scoreless for seven solid innings Friday night at Parkview Field in a 6-2 victory for the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
The TinCaps (19-13) swept the three-game series with the Loons. Great Lakes (12-21) has dropped eight straight, 10-of-11 and 14-of-16.
Loons starter Carlos Frias (3-1) entered the game as the league leader in ERA, but the veteran right-hander allowed three runs (all earned) in three innings and was taken out of the game after just three innings of work for his first losing decision of the year.
The three runs scored by Fort Wayne in the first three frames was enough offense for Hancock (2-0), who scattered seven hits over seven shutout innings, striking out four.
Genison Reyes entered in relief with the TinCaps leading 6-0, and the Loons loaded the bases with none out on two singles and a walk. Against reliever Chris Nunn, Jeremy Rathjen singled home the Loons first run. But the Loons left the bags full in the eighth.
Then in the ninth with two outs and a runner at second, Kevin Taylor singled to center driving in the final run of the game.
Jesmuel Valentin went 3-for-5 against his father's team with two runs scored. Luis Tejada had three RBIs on a single and two sacrifice flies. Gabriel Quintana had two hits and a walk before leaving with an injury. Jeremy Baltz walked thrice.
Prior to the game, the Loons announced that shortstop prospect Corey Seager was placed on the disabled list with a hamstring injury. Also right-hander Lindsey Caughel was promoted to High-A Rancho Cucamonga in the California League. Infielder Elevys Gonzalez and outfielder Robbie Garvey have been added from Rancho.
The Loons begin a three-game series in Lansing against the cellar-dwelling Lugnuts Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Angel Sanchez (1-3, 4.64 ERA) will oppose righty Taylor Cole (1-2, 4.34). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
The Loons are a seventh-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
