West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The West Michigan Whitecaps and Bowling Green Hot Rods played a half-inning before being suspended due to rain on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The scheduled completion of the game, which was halted in a scoreless tie after the top of the first inning, has yet to be determined. It will likely be made up next week when the Hot Rods play a four-game set at Fifth Third Ballpark from May 17-20, their only remaining meeting of the first half.
Bowling Green had rain most of the day on Friday but it subsided late in the afternoon. The game was initially scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. CT start before a 56-minute pre-game delay due to pending storms. The rain resumed just minutes before the 8:00 p.m. CT restart time, at which point the top of the first inning was played through a steady downpour. With a wet infield and more rain expected, the game was put into a second delay immediately after the top of the first inning. It was officially suspended 39 minutes later.
The Whitecaps continue their nine-game, three-city road trip with the opener of a three-game series against the South Bend Silver Hawks at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night. West Michigan's starting pitcher has yet to be determined while RHP Brad Allen (0-1, 7.20) is scheduled to pitch for the Silver Hawks. The Whitecaps' next home game at Fifth Third Ballpark will be on Friday, May 17, at 6:35 p.m. featuring an Avisail Garcia bobblehead doll giveaway for the first 1,000 fans. Group and individual tickets can be reserved by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
