SL1 Chattanooga Lookouts

Lookouts Lose to Stars, 7-1

May 12, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

The third game of five between the Chattanooga Lookouts (14-23) and the Huntsville Stars (26-12) allowed the Stars to improve on their lead in the division, as the Stars defeated the Lookouts 7-1 before a crowd of 4,074 on Kids Eat Free Monday.

The Lookouts took an early lead with the help of some great situational hitting. Darnell Sweeney led off the game with a single to right and Ozzie Martinez moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. A single was all that was needed to score him from there and Jeremy Hazelbaker was more than happy to take care of that with his lone RBI single of the night .

Southpaw Chris Reed (L, 3-2) has been at or near the top of the Southern League strikeout leaderboard most of the season. Reed came into the game in second place, only five away from taking back the lead. The Stars don't strikeout much and came into the game tied for the least amount of strikeouts in the Southern League with 242 so far this season. Reed still was able to reclaim the top spot on the striekouts leaderboard by fanning five Stars batters in 5.1 innings.

Huntsville slowly began to put runs on the board with three RBI singles. In the top of the sixth the team poured on the runs with a grand slam by Jordan Rodgers to make the score 7-1.

Tomorrow, Andres Santiago (0-2, 4.80) goes up against Brent Suter (5-1, 1.71) in Tuesday night's matchup, as the Lookouts attempt to take down the Stars, who currently hold the best record in the Southern League.

Notes: Jeremy Hazelbaker stole second base after getting an RBI single in the first inning, it was his ninth stolen base on the season, leading the team in that category. The next highest stolen base total is four by Darnell Sweeney.
