
BayBears Scorch Suns Twice Monday

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Mobile BayBears (21-16) snapped their five game loosing streak with two straight wins over the Jacksonville Suns (17-20) Monday afternoon at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Rain caused Sunday's afternoon game to be suspended after just one inning of play. Monday morning the two teams resumed play in the second, with the BayBears winning 3-1 in nine innings. In game two, Mobile put up eight runs in the fourth inning en rout to 9-6 7-inning victory.
RHP, A.J. Schugel started game one on Sunday but gave way to RHP Mark Serrano who took the mound for the BayBears on Monday to begin the second inning. The righty allowed just one run on five hits over five innings of work, settling for a no decision when he exited the game after the sixth inning with Mobile trailing 1-0.
In the top of the eighth inning, Raywilly Gomez singled and Sean Jamieson reach on pitch-hit double putting runners at second and third with no outs. With Gerson Montilla batting, Gomez scored on a wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1. With Jamison on third, Montilla gave the BayBears the lead at 2-1 with a sacrifice fly scoring Jamison. RHP R.J. Hively (1-2) earned his first win after a scoreless relief outing in the seventh inning. RHP Jake Barrett struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth, for his fourth save of the season.
In game two, the scheduled game on Monday, RHP Justin Fitzgerald (1-0) took the bump for the BayBears, filling the rotation spot left vacant with the promotion of RHP Chase Anderson to majors. Fitzgerald fell behind early but finished with his first win in his first start for the BayBears. The righty allowed three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts over five innings. Fitzgerald helped his own cause at the plate, going 1-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI including a two-run double in the fourth inning.
The BayBears entered the fourth, down 2-0 but batted around, sending 12 men to the plate while scoring eight runs, the most runs scored in one inning by the BayBears this season. Tom Belza gave Mobile a 3-2 lead with a two-run double plating Dustin Martin and Jake Lamb. With the bases loaded, Fitzgerald doubled to right driving in Daniel Bowman and Belza. Mobile scored the eight runs on just five hits with the Suns committing two errors in the frame. RHP Kaleb Fleck worked a scoreless seventh, earning his first save.
The BayBears and Suns will continue with game four of the five game series on Tuesday with first pitch at 7:05 PM EST. LHP Andrew Chafin (2-1, 2.14) will head to the bump for Mobile while the Suns will send RHP Angel Sanchez (0-5, 5.86) to the hill. The next home stand for Mobile will be a five game set against the Chattanooga Lookouts beginning Thursday, May 15, 2014 with first pitch at 7:05 PM CT.
