Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (70-57) fell behind in the first inning and never recovered in a 6-2 loss at home against the Chattanooga Lookouts (57-67) on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss, coupled with the Tennessee Smokies win over the Jackson Generals, means the Biscuits lead in the Second Half North Division standings is now down to four games.
Curtis Taylor (3-4) opened for the Biscuits, and despite striking out the side in the first, surrendered a solo home run to Luke Raley that put the Lookouts in front, 1-0. In the second, a comebacker off Taylor's foot knocked the hard-throwing right-hander out of the game with an apparent injury. It was the third-straight night that a Biscuit has exited the game with an injury with Mike Brosseau (oblique) leaving on Saturday at Jackson, and Nick Solak (hand) departing yesterday at Riverwalk.
Sam McWilliams came on for the injured Taylor, and after allowing a double to Jordan Gore, served up a three-run opposite-field home run to Jimmy Kerrigan that just got over the inward curve in right field to put Chattanooga up, 4-0.
The Biscuits pulled back a run in the second on a solo home run by Michael Russell off Lookouts starter Tyler Wells (1-2), but a Brian Navarreto RBI-single in the third extended the Chattanooga lead back to four at 5-1. In the bottom of the third, a Nathan Lukes RBI-groundout pulled back another run for the Biscuits, before another Navarreto single in the fifth made it a 6-2 game. Andrew Vazquez struck out six batters over two innings in relief to seal the win for the Lookouts.
The Biscuits will try to bounce back on Tuesday when Blake Bivens (0-1) will get the ball in Game 3.
The current 10-game home stand includes Alabama State vs. Tuskegee Night on T-Shirt Thursday on August 23. The Tennessee Smokies come into the Capital City for Troy University and Community Night with MAX Fireworks on August 24. Alabama/Auburn Night, presented by 95.1 The Fox, and MAX Fireworks is on Saturday, August 25. AUM Night, featuring a 2019 Schedule Poster Giveaway, will be Sunday, August 26, and then the series concludes with Fan Appreciation Night on Tuesday, August 28.
