Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - After erasing a 5-0 deficit and tying the game at 6-6, the Omaha Storm Chasers (62-49) went quiet on offense and the Nashville Sounds (49-62) rallied in the 12th inning to take the game and the series win. It was the longest contest of the season for Omaha in terms of time of game (4:10) and second longest for innings played.
After Christian Colon singled in a run in the fifth tying the game, his second RBI of the day along with his solo homer, the Storm Chasers managed only one hit until the 11th inning. In that frame, Jose Martinez lined into an inning-ending double play with runners on first and second to leave the door open for Nashville. Ryan Roberts homered to lead of the 12th, his second solo shot of the game, and Brent Morel singled in an insurance run. Angel Franco came up in the bottom of the 12th as the tying run with Colon on, but flew out to center.
Before the rally, the Storm Chasers pitching staff had thrown seven straight scoreless innings. The pair of homers for Roberts gave him four in the four-game series, after the veteran had totaled only four round-trippers in 82 games before coming to Omaha. The runs in the final frame came off newest Storm Chasers pitcher Paul Clemens, just acquired this past Sunday as a free agent.
Brett Eibner went only 1-for-6 but the hit extended his on-base streak to 27 games, the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League and the longest for Omaha this season overall. J.C. Boscan made his first start in nearly a month, and collected two RBI on a single in the fourth.
The Storm Chasers now travel to Des Moines for a five-game set with the Iowa Cubs, their final series of the 2015 season. In the opener, Omaha will send out RHP J.C. Sulbaran (1-0, 1.35 ERA) to face off with Cubs LHP Drake Britton (7-5, 4.85 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
