Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies (62-47) are 15 games above .500 and lead their division by nine games thanks to another outstanding starting pitching performance, this time by right-hander Mike Hauschild. The University of Dayton product, who began the year at Double-A Corpus Christi, tossed a career-high eight shutout innings and scattered five hits, while reliever Jake Buchanan came on in the ninth to finish the combined shutout of the Albuquerque Isotopes (48-62) on Monday night at Chukchansi Park. The 6-0 victory was the fourth shutout turned in by Fresno this season and the first since their historic 17-0 thrashing of the Salt Lake Bees back on June 14th at Smith's Ballpark.
Matt Duffy extended his hitting streak to a career-high tying 15 games with an RBI double to right-center in the fourth to score Tyler White, who was hit by a pitch two batters earlier. The double was the first hit of the game for the Grizzlies and awakened their offense over the next few innings. Tony Kemp and Alex Presley added RBI groundouts in the fifth made it 3-0, while Duffy struck for his 15th homer of the year in the sixth to push the lead to four.
In the seventh, Andrew Aplin singled, stole second, and scored when Tony Kemp laced a double just inside the line in left. After Alex Presley advanced Kemp to third on a deep fly out, Tyler White poked a single into left to plate the sixth and final run for Fresno.
Duffy has been magnificent over the past four games, batting .533 (8-15) with three doubles, two homers, six RBI, three walks and five runs scored.
Over the first three games of the series against Albuquerque, Fresno starters Mark Appel, Brett Oberholtzer, and Hauschild have combined to go 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA (2 ER/23.0 IP), no walks and 19 strikeouts.
The Grizzlies have their sights set on their second series sweep of an opponent on Tuesday night at Chukchansi Park when they wrap up the four-game set against the Isotopes. Right-hander Brady Rodgers (8-5, 4.93) will be activated from the disabled list and make the start for Fresno. After the conclusion of tomorrow night's game, the Grizzlies will host the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, for a five-game series that'll run Wednesday through Sunday.
