Brockton Rox News Release
Augusta, NJ (July 3, 2007) -- Sussex LF Alex Frazier hit a pair of three-run homers and drove in all eight runs as the Sussex Skyhawks beat the Brockton Rox 8-4 at Skylands Park in Augusta, NJ. While 1B Francisco Lebron ripped a three-run HR for the Rox in the top of the first inning three batters into the game, the Rox were able to score just one more as the Skyhawks took Game 2 of the three-game set. Rolando Viera took the loss for the Rox, allowing six runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings pitched. No Rox player had more than one hit. The Rox and Skyhawks have each won a game of the three-game set and will face off Wednesday in the rubber game of the series at 6:35 PM.
CF Joe Hough and LF Jeremy Coronado led off the game against Skyhawks starter LHP Ryan Lobban with singles to bring up Lebron. He smoked a line-drive to left-center, initially ruled a double, but after an umpires' conference, Lebron was awarded a three-run HR, his seventh longball of 2007. In the bottom of the first, Sussex SS Brian Rios walked and CF Ron Perodin singled to bring up Frazier. His first HR of the night tied the game at three.
Still tied in the fifth, Rios and Perodin reached on hits to set up Frazier once again. His line-drive shot to left-center just cleared the wall, giving the Skyhawks a 6-3 lead. While the Rox got a run in the seventh on an RBI groundout by 3B Melvin Falu in his first Rox game, they got no closer. Frazier doubled home Rios and Perodin in the eighth, giving Sussex an 8-4 lead and Frazier all eight RBI. The three combined to score all eight of the Skyhawks' runs, finishing the game a combined 10-13. RHP Trey Stevens pitched three innings for the save, just the second of the season for the entire Skyhawks' bullpen.
On the 4th of July, the Rox and Skyhawks play for the final time at Skylands Park this season. RHP Mike McTamney (1-4, 3.31 ERA) starts against Sussex LHP Vince Davis (2-3, 1.99 ERA) at 6:35 PM.
