Skyhawks 2B Rob Gandolfo Named Player of the Week

The official statistician of the Can-Am League, PA Sportsticker, has selected Sussex Skyhawks 2B Rob Gandolfo and North Shore Spirit RHP Ryan Bicondoa as the Batter and Pitcher, respectively, for the week of June 25-July 1.

In six games, Gandolfo batted .522 (12-for-23) with one double, five runs scored and eight RBI. The Dumont, NJ resident in a 17-10 win over the Quebec Capitales this past Tuesday had a 3-for-5 night with a run scored and five runs driven in. For the season, Gandolfo is hitting .311 with 24 RBI, 15 runs scored and 42 hits.

The 29-year-old was signed by the Seattle Mariners in November of 1999. Gandolfo played five years in the Mariners farm system reaching Triple A Tacoma in 2002 and 2003. He spent the last two seasons with Chico of the Golden League.

Bicondoa was simply spectacular in his June 28th outing against the Brockton Rox. The 28-year-old hurled a complete game shutout allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out an amazing 12 Rox batters. Bicondoa is 3-1 on the season with a 2.97 ERA in 36 1/3 innings pitched. He leads the Can-Am League in shutouts with two.

The Lovelock, NV resident is a graduate of Western Kentucky. He was signed as a non drafted free agent by the New York Yankees in May of 2002, where he pitched close to two seasons. Last season with North Shore and the Single A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, Daytona, Bicondoa went a combined 7-3 with a miniscule ERA of 1.90 in 16 games.
