New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - With one swing of the bat by Matt Lauderdale, a gutsy effort by starting pitcher Josh Brey, and the rock solid pitching of three relievers, the New Jersey Jackals improved to 27-10, with a 4-2 win over the Atlantic City Surf.

After inning and a half of scoreless baseball, the Surf got on the scoreboard first with a two run bottom of the second. Joe Burke collected an RBI single, and Rico Santana stole home on a throw down to second base on a stolen base attempt from Burke.

Atlantic City starting pitcher J.C. Huguet pitched three spotless innings of baseball until the fourth when the Jackals took their first lead of the ballgame, and it would be for good. After three consecutive singles, Matt Lauderdale cranked a grand slam to left, making it a 4-2 lead for the "Red and Black." That would be the only runs scored on the night.

The Jackal bullpen took over for Brey after 5.1 innings, and they were spectacular. Hunter Davis hurled 1.2 innings, Justin Garza pitched an inning, and Rusty Tucker closed it for the Jackals in the ninth. Tucker earned his league leading 12th save of 2007.

Not to be outdone, the Surf bullpen was just as solid. Three relievers, Monte Mansfield, Jaimie Tricoglou and Matt Pike silenced the Jackal bats, giving their team a chance down the stretch. Mansfield and Pike both pitched an inning, while Tricoglou pitched a pair.

The Jackals go for the sweep on Wednesday at 7:05pm in Atlantic City.
