Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA -- Righty Reid Willett tossed seven shutout innings and Josh Beauregard hit two of the team's four home runs to propel the Worcester Tornadoes to a 7-2 victory over the Nashua Pride at Hanover Insurance Park on Tuesday night.
Righty Akira Okamoto (4-2), who had not allowed a single home run or more than 2 runs or 6 hits in a game all season was rocked by the Worcester offense just six days after striking out 12 and allowing just two hits in 8 innings in a victory over the Tornadoes. Josh Beauregard started the bottom of the 1st inning by ripping an Okamoto offering off the scoreboard in right center to make it 1-0. On the very next pitch, Dominic Ramos laced a fastball over the leftfield fence for his third home run of the season and a 2-0 lead. It was the first time this season the Tornadoes had back-to-back home runs.
The Tornadoes tacked on two more off Okamoto in the 2nd inning on a Keith Beauregard RBI single and a Josh Beauregard sacrifice fly that made it 4-0. In his next at-bat in the 4th inning, Josh Beauregard launched a tremendous blast to rightfield off Okamoto for his second home run of the game and third of the season. Worcester would cap the home run barrage in the 5th when Patrick Perry tatooed a pitch to rightcenter for a solo shot to make it 7-0.
Meanwhile, Reid Willett (2-4) was in control from the start. He scattered five hits, all singles, over 7 shutout innings. The Pride got to P.J. Bevis for two runs in the 8th but that would be as close as they would get, providing the final 7-2 score.
Willett (2-4) earned the win and Okamoto (4-2) was saddled with the loss. The four home runs in the game matched a season-high for Worcester. The Tornadoes will try to make it two in a row over Nashua on Wednesday night when they send righty Alex Pena (3-1) to the mound against Nashua righty Jason Kosow (0-1). It will be a rematch of the June 28th game in Nashua in which the Tornadoes won, 4-3. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
