Joliet Slammers News Release
(Joliet, IL)- The Slammers got beat by the long ball in Crestwood on Saturday night, dropping the series opener to the Windy City ThunderBolts 4-2.
It was a pitcher's duel through four, and the Bolts jumped ahead in the fifth. With two runners in scoring position, leadoff hitter Brian Burke slapped an RBI single off of Wander Alvino's glove to give Windy City the 1-0 lead.
Joliet battled back with a pair of runs in the sixth on a two-out rally. Hector Pellot and Erik Lis drew walks, and Zach Mandelblatt singled to bring home Pellot, and Lis scored on a fielding error, putting the tally at 2-1.
The ThunderBolts jumped ahead on two home runs in the bottom of the inning. Chad Cregar sent a solo shot deep to right field to tie the game, and with a runner aboard, Brandon Decker belted one to overtake Joliet 4-2.
Although Joliet starter Wander Alvino gave up four runs and was stuck with the loss, he threw a no-hitter through four and two-thirds innings. Windy City moundsman Dustin Williams earned the win.
